SZD-50-3 crash during training flight near Löhningen results in two fatalities
On October 1, 1989, an SZD-50-3 Puchacz glider crashed during a training flight near Löhningen, Switzerland. The glider, piloted by an instructor and a student, was observed entering a spin shortly after takeoff from Schaffhausen airfield. Despite attempts to recover, the glider stalled at low altitude and impacted the ground, resulting in the destruction of the aircraft. Both the instructor and the student sustained fatal injuries. The official investigation highlighted factors such as low airspeed near the ground and potential issues with the left trim tab control.
