Kuchelberg, Germany DG Flugzeugbau DG 808 C

After self-launch from Ohlstadt-Poemetsried for an alpine cross-country, the pilot of a DG 808 C was fatally injured and the aircraft destroyed. The pilot routed southwest to the Ammergebirge, past Garmisch to the Zugspitze, then northwest down the Lechtal to Reutte and northeast to the Kuchelberg, where the FLARM track ended around 15:30. The wreck was found the next morning in a rocky gully 40-50 m below the ridge crest on the northwest face at about 2,030 m AMSL. Other pilots reported very good thermals but turbulent NW wind over the ridges. The pilot had 667 hours total but only 6 hours on type.
