ASW 19 B bounces off a field track after running downhill on outlanding
On an outlanding near Bobrová, the pilot of a Schleicher ASW 19 B was unhurt, but the glider was substantially damaged when it ran downhill off the end of its field and bounced off a rough track. Returning to Zbraslavice in deteriorating soaring weather, the pilot chose a mown grain field sloping uphill into wind and lowered the gear. The touchdown was normal, but the ground run carried the glider onto the field's reverse slope, where braking did not stop it. It came down in the next field, and about 1 m later the gear retracted with its lever still down.
- Cross-country flight from LKZB: The pilot was aerotowed from Zbraslavice at 12:02 for a flight via Jedovnice and Moravská Třebová and back.
- Return and outlanding decision: During the flight, with conditions unfavourable for thermal flying, the pilot turned back for Zbraslavice and then decided to land out near Bobrová.
- Ground run onto reverse slope: The pilot landed into wind on a mown grain field sloping uphill, gear down. The touchdown was normal, but the ground run carried the glider onto the field's downhill slope.
- Braking does not stop it: Wheel braking did not stop the glider before the end of the field, and it ran onto an uneven field track crossing its path.
- Bounce off the track: The gear was still intact on the track. The glider bounced on the track's unevenness and dropped onto the next mown field.
- Gear retracts; glider damaged: About 1 m later the gear retracted with its lever in the down position; the glider swung about 90° right and stopped. The pilot was unhurt.
