Instructor stalls a Super Blanik turning into an outlanding field

The instructor of a Super Blanik stalled the glider turning into a bean field near Gregory; he was seriously injured, his student lightly, and the glider substantially damaged. About ten minutes before, the instructor had taken control to work for height, and he later told the student they would land off-field. The glider crossed a tree line about 46 m above the ground and turned towards the field. The marks on the wreckage were nose-low and left-wing-low, and the outboard 1.8 m of the left wing had broken away. Neither pilot remembered the accident.

1. Instructional flight from Gregory: A student with about four hours was flying a club Super Blanik with an instructor in the rear seat.

4. Stall in the turn: The angle of attack went past the critical value as the instructor stalled the glider in the turn, with too little height to recover. Neither pilot remembered what happened.
5. Nose-low, left-wing-low impact: The forward fuselage was crushed and the outboard 1.8 m of the left wing separated, bent upward at the break. The instructor was seriously injured and the student lightly.
