Pilot stalls L 33 Solo on short final while fixated on a tree

The pilot of an L 33 Solo was uninjured, but the glider was substantially damaged, when it stalled on short final near Kingman. Unable to find enough lift to stay airborne, the pilot chose a field within gliding distance and set up to land there; on short final he fixated on a small tree in the glide path, and as his airspeed decreased, he stalled. The glider struck the ground; the left wing spar and aft fuselage bore the damage.
