Grunau Baby II collision with hangar after failed aerotow launch at Birrfeld airfield
On December 20, 1964, a Grunau Baby II experienced a launch failure during an aerotow at Birrfeld airfield, Switzerland. The left wing of the glider touched the ground shortly after takeoff, causing the aircraft to veer and lift steeply. The towline broke at a low altitude, leading the glider to collide with a hangar roof. The pilot was uninjured, but the aircraft sustained moderate damage. The incident occurred during a target landing competition organized by the Akademische Fluggruppe Zürich.
