Ka 4 Rhönlerche II Trainingsunfall während des Anflugs auf dem Flugplatz Birrfeld
Am 16. Juli 1966 war eine Alexander Schleicher Ka 4 Rhönlerche II in einen Vorfall auf dem Flugplatz Birrfeld, Schweiz, verwickelt. Während eines Schulungsflugs mit Doppelsteuer führte der Flugschüler ein Ausweichmanöver durch, wodurch die linke Flügelspitze den Boden berührte. Der Fluglehrer konnte nicht rechtzeitig eingreifen, was dazu führte, dass das Segelflugzeug auf den Boden aufschlug. Das Flugzeug erlitt erhebliche Schäden, aber es wurden keine Verletzungen oder Todesfälle gemeldet.

- Student evasive maneuver: The student pilot initiated an evasive maneuver with the glider during the training flight.
- Left wingtip strikes ground: During the evasive maneuver, the left wingtip contacted the ground, upsetting the glider's attitude.
- Instructor unable to recover: The flight instructor attempted to intervene but was unable to regain control in time to prevent further loss of control.
- Crash - no injury: Following the wingtip strike, the glider impacted the ground and was significantly damaged, but no injuries occurred.
