El 5 de junio de 1972, el Elfe S-3 realizó un aterrizaje en campo cerca de Seebach, Alemania durante un vuelo triangular de travesía. El piloto, que tenía 523 horas de experiencia de vuelo, no resultó herido en el incidente. El planeador sufrió graves daños cuando el ala izquierda se enganchó en el borde de un campo de grano alto, causando un trompo.
