ASW 15 outlanding accident near Muotathal results in severe injuries
On April 21, 1983, an Alexander Schleicher ASW 15 glider attempted an outlanding near Muotathal, Switzerland. The pilot, flying in strong Föhn conditions, lost altitude rapidly and overshot the intended landing field. During a left turn, the left wing struck the ground, causing the glider to crash onto a meadow. The pilot sustained severe injuries, and the glider was heavily damaged. The official report highlights insufficient experience in Föhn conditions and outlandings as contributing factors.
