H 301 crash at Schilthorn after encountering strong downdrafts
On May 6, 1989, a Glasflügel H 301 crashed at Schilthorn, Switzerland, during a training flight. The pilot, on his sixth flight after a winter break, encountered strong downdrafts while crossing a ridge at low altitude. The glider struck a rocky outcrop and crashed down the slope, resulting in the pilot being ejected and fatally injured. The glider was destroyed. The official report identified unsuitable mountain flying tactics as the cause of the accident.
