Am 20. August 1997 kollidierte eine DG Flugzeugbau DG-500 Elan Trainer während eines Trainingsflugs auf dem Flugplatz Montricher in der Schweiz mit einem Hangar. Der Vorfall ereignete sich kurz nach dem Start, als das Schleppseil in geringer Höhe unbeabsichtigt gelöst wurde. Das Flugzeug drehte nach rechts ab und prallte gegen einen Hangar, was zum Tod des Flugschülers und zu schweren Verletzungen des Fluglehrers führte.   1. Aerotow takeoff: The DG-500 began a normal aerotow departure from runway 03 with instructor in the rear seat and student in the front seat.

  7. Crash - fatal: After completing a little more than half a turn back toward the airfield, the glider struck a hangar, fatally injuring the unrestrained student, seriously injuring the instructor, and heavily damaging the aircraft and the building.
