ASW 24 catches a wingtip on an unstabilised outlanding approach

The pilot of an ASW 24 was killed in an off-field landing during a competition near Rädigke; the glider was destroyed. About 140 km into an assigned-area task, the experienced pilot set up to land out on a large field with the gear and airbrakes out. The approach was flown unstabilised, and at very low height the left wingtip touched the ground first; the glider then cartwheeled and struck the ground. No technical fault was found, and the exact flight path could not be reconstructed.
